I Have Murdered Poverty – Nollywood Actor, Saka
Hafiz Oyetoro’s controversial move from Etisalat to MTN as a brand face seems to have changed his fortune for good.
South Africa-based scholar, Prof. Kole Omotosho, and lecturer at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Hafiz Oyetoro, do not belong to the same generation. The distance between Nigeria and SA also implies that they cannot be meeting each other constantly. Yet, they both have something in common.
They have the enviable record of successfully combining their work as lecturers with advertising. Apart from the fact that Omotosho is a writer, best known for his controversial novel about Nigeria – Just Before Dawn – he has made a name for himself in SA where his face has graced several advert bill boards. The latest is the one in which he is advertising for Fidelity Bank Plc.
Also, both men are household names in SA and Nigeria. While Omotosho is almost worshipped as a cult hero called Yebo Gogo, Oyetoro is popularly known as Saka among TV viewers in Nigeria.
Incidentally, at a time when Omotosho’s 70th birthday is still the talk of the literary community, Oyetoro, who has also established himself as an actor and a popular face on TV, also recently stirred the scene. This is courtesy of his ‘shocking’ appearance in the MTN’s I don port advert, a commercial that many have described as an excellent one – not minding the fact that some believe it is a below-the-belt jab for Etisalat, the telecoms company for which he worked as an advertising model for some time.
Ever since Oyetoro’s crossover, in which he is required to lead a major advertising campaign to drive the network portability initiative by Nigerian Communication Commission, Nigerians have not stopped talking about him and his amazing rise to fame and riches.
The deal is believed to be worth about N20m, which is enough to give the hardworking and self-effacing actor a clean break from poverty. But while the man himself has declined to comment on the positive twist in his fortune, he was recently quoted in THE NEWS as saying that he had finally conquered poverty.
“To the glory of God, level don change. Let me put it like that. I believe that in the nearest future, level will finally change. But now, level don dey change. I have murdered poverty and God has finally murdered it for me. I am no longer poor, but very comfortable,” he said.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, he said he was not ready to talk about his new contract with the telecommunications company.
“For now, I don’t want to say anything. I promise you that I will talk at the appropriate time,” he said.
But when asked if his new responsibilities as a brand ambassador for MTN would not clash with his job at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, he replied, “I am a responsible civil servant. My duty is to teach other people’s children well, just as I would expect others to teach mine. So I cannot abandon my job. I assure you, everything has been taken care of.”
A few years ago, little was known about Oyetoro.
Although he studied Theatre Arts at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and worked as a part-time lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University before moving to Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in Ijanikin, Oyetoro remained relatively obscure for a long while.
In those days, he managed to appear in a few insignificant theatre productions, in which he played mostly comic roles. It took a while before the qualities that would raise him a notch higher than most of his peers began to manifest.
First, Nollywood came calling with an opportunity to establish himself as a regular face on the lighted screen. Oyetoro, who was burning up with a desire to prove himself, had to grab it. Still, a few years later and with appearances in hundreds of Nollywood films to his credit, he was far from hitting the limelight.
Then another opportunity presented itself. This time, it came from Centrespread, an advertising agency. The agency wanted him to be their model for its advertising campaigns with Etisalat. The deal clicked and Oyetoro’s transformation began in earnest. That was when, for the purpose of the campaigns, he assumed a new identity: he became known ‘Saka’, a character that he helped create along with other Thespians in 2004 for a TV comedy series titled ‘House A-part’.
Eventually, Oyetoro became the face of Etisalat campaigns. Within a short time, Saka had become a household name and Oyetoro could look forward to a brighter future free of the clutches of poverty.
In an interview published on the Internet, the actor cum lecturer admitted that he was involved in a bitter struggle against poverty for a long time.
“Poverty was my friend and family for a long time. As you sit with me here side by side, that was how I was sitting with poverty in the past,” he said.
The struggle against poverty had also cost him the opportunity to settle down early enough in life. “There was a lady who disqualified me because I didn’t have a car. But, thank God, I eventually got a wife who genuinely loves me and who I genuinely love,” he said.

Hafeez Ayetoro, Aka Saka “PORTS” From Etisalat To MTN
The Number Portability launched by the NCC yesterday must have gotten its first casualty if the current advert being run by Telecom giant, MTN, is anything to go by.
Ace comedian, Hafeez Ayetoro, a.k.a, Simply Saka who has become the face of Etisalat might have switched network from the GSM company he was known with. It will be recalled that Hafeez’s face became a part of Etisalat branding for some years.
News reaching us however affirms that Saka has changed camps and pitched his tent with rival telecoms giant MTN; and a new MTN ad campaign proves this fact.
MTN just commenced their television commercial for the recently activated Number Portability Scheme with Saka excitedly announcing he has ‘upgraded’ to MTN. The ad starts with Saka dressed in green traditional attire only to transform into a bright yellow attire as he leads a music band.
‘I don port o, I don port go MTN. I don upgrade to MTN‘, Saka sings and dances. Credible sources confirm that Saka got paid a whooping N20m for this new deal.

Omotola’s Husband’s Scrap Plane Causes Panic In Lagos
The plane and onlookers
Culled from Punch
A scrap plane formerly owned by the late Apostle Gabriel Oduyemi of Bethel Ministries, Ajah, Lagos, caused panic in the city on Thursday as rumour spread that another aircraft had crashed in Lagos.
It was learnt that the plane, which was recently released to Capt Matthew Ekeinde, husband of Nollywood star, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, was being dragged to Badagry area of the state before its tyre burst. The incident forced the new owner to dump the plane in a nearby filling station.
Hundreds of residents trooped out with their smart phones and camera, and queued behind the gate of Dapsey Oil filling station at Igando where the plane was parked.
A senior employee of the filling station said the plane, with registration number N972TF, was being towed from Muritala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja to Badagry when one of the tyres burst.
He said, “The plane was brought here around 2am after one of its tyres burst. It was being towed by a red vehicle, but after it got to Igando, they discovered it would be difficult to get it to its destination with burst tyre, which was why they brought it here.”
The Lagos State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the police provided escort for the plane.
He said, “About 12.45am, the command got a directive to escort the jet from MMIA Ikeja to Badagry by road.
“The operation was led by one Capt. Matthew Ekeinde, but in the process of the journey, one of the jet’s tyres burst at College Bus Stop and the jet could not move.
“It was parked at Dapsey Filling Station along Igando for repairs. We have provided security for the plane until it is moved to Badagry.”
PUNCH Metro observed that men of The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were on the ground to “ensure the safety of people” living in the area.
The Igando Divisional Police Officer, Adeoye Olugbemiga, came with his team around 12pm to control on-lookers.
In a short time, some of the residents turned the scene into an amusement park and began to pose and take shots near the plane.
One of our correspondents observed that the plane’s two wings had been chopped off and the cockpit was stuffed with nylons.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Nnamdi Udoh, in a statement, said the aircraft had long been within the agency’s facility till Wednesday night when it was removed.
Udoh said, “The aircraft that was sighted by the residents was actually a junk one belonging to the late Apostle Gabriel Oduyemi of Bethel Ministries.
“The aircraft was actually released to Capt Ekeinde who will be using it for educational purposes in Badagry, Lagos.”
Ekeinde confirmed on the telephone that the scrap plane belonged to him.
He said, “The aircraft will be situated in a multipurpose and entertainment centre which wlll be open very soon.
“When opened, the centre will be the first of its kind in West Africa.”

The Relationship Between Peter Okoye And Wizkid’s Girlfriend
Someone said Burnaboy must have killed himself with laughter by now.
So, yesterday, our dear darling Tonto Dikeh co-hosted Iyanya's Kukere London Concert. And at some point during the show, Tonto fell flat on her face! And here's how it happened! *biggg winksss*
Tonto Dikeh had ALL the signs that she was either high on alcohol or drugs when she came on stage to perform last night. I was told.
Her song was playing for her to perform but she kept telling the crowd that she can't wave because she did not shave her armpit. Then she put her hand in the armpit, staggering and shouting, that when she was in America they showed her love.
All this time she was supposed to be performing, next thing she fell!
The MC had to get her off the stage, reportedly because they realised she was messed up.. She kept staggering and shouting. I learnt she actually got booed off the stage as well.http://www.youtube.com/user/advertise?v=R-3vUJpIdGk

New Twist! Court Of Appeal Rules Against Baba Suwe, Orders NDLEA Not To Pay N25M Compensation
He lost…for now.
The ball has swung in favour of the guys from the government after a court of appeal in Lagos ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Angency not to pay N25m compensation fee to comic Yoruba actor Babatunde Omidina, better known as Baba Suwe.
The judgement was made May 31, 2013 ruling out an earlier judgement made by the Ikeja High Court after it was established (with the help of his counsel Bamidele Aturu), that the actor was detained more than the required time after the agency accused him of allegedly swallowing ‘large amounts of drugs’ in his body.
Baba Suwe was arrested at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, on his way to Paris, France to attend a naming ceremony of an Air France staff scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2011.
Sources say, Aturu will appeal the ruling.

Why I love Peter Okoye-Lola Omotayo finally opens up
Lola Omotayo has kept a low profile since she started dating Peter Okoye
of Psquare. With two kids to show, she opens up on why she loves him,
the challenges and her best moments with him...and yes, being an
independent woman...
What actually attracted you to Peter?
How romantic is he?
How challenging is it to date a celebrity?
I love Peter because he was never intimidated. When I met him, he was just trying to build himself and I was very proud of him. I have a lot of respect for him, his talent and I saw that he had a vision. Peter doesn’t get intimidated by anything; in fact, he supports and encourages me all the time. I think he’s happy that he doesn’t have to do everything; he can rely on me that I will take care of our kids.
What actually attracted you to Peter?
Peter has drive. He has vision and pursues it. He doesn’t let anybody distract him from that vision and that I saw in him, which a lot of people didn’t see. Some people were like, ‘what are you doing with a musician? Are you crazy?’ but I saw something very different and unique about Peter.
I saw the goals he set for himself and how he accomplished those goals step by step, and I was very impressed with that. I also saw that he wasn’t a selfish person. He was a generous person from the outset, even though he didn’t have much then, he was always generous. I like a man who is generous, not for the financial reason, but also to see how he can add value to other people’s lives; that is very important to me. He is also a good listener; he listens to people, listens to me…those are the things that attracted me to Peter. He’s an amazing guy
How romantic is he?
Peter is very romantic as well. He does things that an average Nigerian guy will not do. There was a Valentine’s Day that he came to my house with a guitar and played some love ballads for me. That was really cool and I loved it. Those are the little things that he does that really touched me.
How challenging is it to date a celebrity?
Having a relationship with a musician is one of the most challenging situations to be in. There are things you have to deal with; a lot of women, intruders, fans. You have to appreciate and respect the fans, but you also have some of them who are thinking of other things. I think it’s one of the most challenging relationships one can have.
You won’t even spend much time with your partner because he’s on the road most of the time doing shows and concerts; even during holidays like Christmas, Easter and New Year, they are not around. So I’m not really enjoying that part. But I thank God that we are managing it very well.
What advice do you have for Nigerian ladies who put all their financial burdens on their partner?
I think that is the core of our problems in this society because we put so much pressure on the man to take care of us, pay our bills…we put so much pressure on them, and that tempts some men to start doing some shady businesses. Women put too much pressure on men in this part of the world.
Also, a lot of women are greedy and lazy, so they just want to get married and stop working. It doesn’t mean women should go all out and work for the men, but somehow, you just have to make things easy for him. I see a lot of young ladies out there; it is not as if there are no jobs for them to do, the problem is that they don’t want to do certain type of jobs, they want everything to come easy.
I started the very hard way, I didn’t start the easy way like people assume. I had to work myself up there because I had a vision. A lot of young ladies in Nigeria see people driving fancy cars; carrying fancy bags and assume that a man is supposed to do all of that for them, so they sell themselves in order to get it. But you don’t have to do that. You can always find ways to make money legally.
D'Banj Finally Ends Speculation Over Olamide
D’banj has finally shutdown stories he’s signed Olamide, saying it’s all just a rumour.

Big Brother Africa: Nigerian Rep Beverly Osu in love triangle
Nigerian female representative, Beverly Osu, is presently enmeshed in a love triangle completed by LK4 and Koketso.
The love triangle is quite complicated as LK4, the man in it, is playing games with Osu and Koketso.
On her own part, Osu is keeping her feelings pretty close to her chest for now.
Koketso has however said that she has feelings for LK4 but she won’t let them hinder her to win the BBA prize.

Iyanya Is Not My Kind Of Artiste, He Is A Baby To Me - Oritse Femi
Iyanya
is a Nigerian singer that has before now, not being able to break into
the showbiz mainstream especially in the music industry.
After becoming the winner of the maiden edition of music reality game show, MTN Project Fame, the Calabar, Cross River State zone representative of the show found it difficult to make it big musically.
About two singles Iyanya released after the show were not commercially successful. This may have made him to dumped RnB style of music for the commercial style of dance-hall music. His 'Kukere' single has now shot him into an instant limelight.
While a guest on a radio show recently, 'Better' singer, Oritsefemi revealed that rave of the moment artiste, Iyanya is a baby to him. He said that the 'Etighi dance' artiste cannot feature in any of his songs that is intended to be put in his (Oritsefemi) album.
The Delta State-born artiste, who recently launched his album at Rumours Club, Ikeja, Lagos, also said that Iyanya is not his kind of artiste claiming that the Calabar-born singer is only just like a baby to him.
Oritsefemi revealed that he can only do a song with Iyanya if such song is intended to be featured in Iyanya's album. Will this revelation by Oritsefemi pitch both artistes against each other?

Genevieve Nnaji Caught Smoking, Claims It Relaxes Her
Few days ago we shared the shocking revelation of Paul Okoye Of
P-Square with, this bobo was caught smoking at Rumours Night club in
Lagos last week.
The latest revelation is even more shocking. Iin an excerpt from Charles Novia’s Memoirs titled “Nollywood Till November”, Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji was caught smoking.
Excerpt from the Nollywood Till November below:
“Our mutual professional respect for each other developed the more. I remember on the third day of recording, one night while shooting at a clinic in Victoria Garden City Extension, I came out for a bit of fresh air while the technical people were setting up for the next scene.
Genevieve Nnaji Is A Smoker
I saw Genevieve in a dark corner of the building, smoking a cigarette. ‘Whoops! You caught me’, she said, laughing. ‘You smoke?’ I asked, a bit surprised.
‘Now and then. It relaxes me ’ she said.”

EXCLUSIVE: Wizkid, Davido At War
Fans
dreaded this day, media experts predicted it, and even the artistes in
question tried avoiding it, but it seemed inevitable from the very
beginning – a once buoyant relationship between Ayo ‘Wizkid‘ Balogun and
David ‘Davido‘ Adeleke has finally hit the rocks.
The
young pop stars are currently at loggerheads, and NET can exclusively
tell you that the vibrant ‘Wizzy’ and ‘Omo baba olowo’ are no longer on
speaking terms.
Both
artistes’ camps have taken sides and are on the verge of calling out
names; the tension between both artistes keeps threatening the air of
peace left.
Recently
Davido and his HKN label crew were reported to have walked out of the
NEA Awards show while Wizkid was performing. Fans are already asking
questions, the most popular one being ‘what started it all?’
The
dispute between Wizkid and Davido might seem sudden to the general
public, but it dates back longer than we think. The cause? You’ll have
to thank two very important men in the Nigerian music industry – D’banj
and Don Jazzy.
FIRST BLOOD
It
all started with the news of D’banj signing Davido to his DB Records
back in May 2012 – the news turned out to be false, but this obviously
didn’t go down well with the ‘other camp.’
‘You
see Davido was very close to Don Jazzy and the Mo’hits squad before
they parted with D’banj. When Jazzy heard Davido signed with D’banj, he
wasn’t entirely happy’, a close friend of both camps tells NET.
SECOND ROUND’S ON ME
Don
Jazzy is said to have immediately told Wande Coal (who mentors both
Wizkid and Davido) to stop visiting Davido at his Lekki home.
Davido,
at the time, was still recording his debut album and had plans to
collaborate with Wande and Wizzy on separate songs. When Davido
contacted Wande Coal, the pop singer’s management asked for an
exorbitant fee (reportedly N1.5m) for the collabo. Sources say Davido
was keen to get it done, but his manager Asa Asika was having none of
it. This ‘sudden policy’ led to a war of words between Asika and Wande’s
manager Nana. The collabo never happened. Wande and Davido stopped
talking and calling each other.
STRIKE THREE
Davido
moved on to record the much talked about duet with Wizkid. But when he
sent the instrumental to the EME team, Wizkid, sources say, told them he
couldn’t work with Davido on the song, saying the beat wasn’t up to
standard and he didn’t want to lower his brand. Little did Davido know
that it was his fight with Wande that made him (Wizkid) immediately take
sides.
‘Wande
is like Wizkid’s elder brother. Wizzy looks up to him a lot and
anything Wande says, Wizkid will do. When Wande told him about what
happened between him and Davido, he just took sides with him straight’,
says our inside source.
Davido,
losing on both ends, scrapped both songs and even though it was a huge
blow, he didn’t let it get him down. The disappointment is said to have
inspired the first track on his album ‘All of you.’ Davido, well known
for his boisterous attitude, laid it all out on the song, claiming to be
better than ‘everyone’, referencing artistes such as 2face, Psquare and
D’banj as his mentors, conspicuously leaving out the MAVIN and EME
crew. The MAVINS seemingly responded by not attending Davido’s album
launch held at the Eko Hotel and Suites
‘Davido
doesn’t send Don Jazzy or them Banky W again, that’s what inspired that
song, he believes they aren’t better than him and to an extent he does
prove it’ said our source.
AS IT STANDS
After
the Don Jazzy-D’banj split, crew members decamped and spoils were
taken. While Don Jazzy took with him pop singers Wande Coal, Dr SID, and
rapper D’Prince, and launched his MAVIN Records label with a surprise
signing Tiwa Savage, D’banj went the other way with his younger brother
Kay Switch. Other familiar friends like Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Davido, the
HKN Gang and Mo’Hits hype man Special Ed readily affiliates themselves
with D’banj.
SHOW AND PROVE
Music
pundits are already weighing in on what a Wizkid-Davido fight would
look like, so NET decided to do a short review of both acts.
Davido
might look like the rookie with just 21 months in the game, but with
the release of his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis,’ both
artistes are on the same level as regards the number of albums released
(Wizkid released his debut Superstar in 2011)
Wizkid
had a grand album launch at the Eko Hotel and Suites in 2011, with high
profile guests including the First Lady of Lagos State Abimbola
Fashola, Davido held his album launch at the same venue, also attended
by notable personalities, including billionaire Aliko Dangote.
Both
artistes have financial backing – Wizkid has spent the last year
performing at multiple shows, earning cool millions. Davido, not long
after the release of his monster single ‘Dami duro’ started earning big
cash, performing in shows as far as Malaysia. We won’t even mention his
billionaire dad’s backing.
‘Davido
is throwing all the money into his music; he shot four videos before
the release of his album and has shot another two. He plans to even
shoot more’ a friend adds.
International
recognition and collaborations? Wizkid easily leads in that area,
having recorded with Akon, with unreleased material with rappers Wale,
Young Jeezy and Kardinal Offishal. But it’s only a matter of time before
Davido jumps on the train, starting with a rumoured remix of his
‘Ekuro’ single with Akon.
Davido
equally matches Wizkid’s artistic versatility with sheer energy and an
ear for contemporary sound. For every song Wizzy switches his flow from
Fuji to R&B to Patois, Davido releases ‘today’s music’, easily
turning his songs into chart toppers. Talented duo!
Both
artistes have solid backing from their labels. In 2012, Banky W finally
moulded the EME crew into a powerful unit, with extra signings Niyola,
Shaydee and affiliates Rotimi and X.O Senavoe. Davido has kept the
business within the family – signing his cousins Sinarambo, B.Red,
former Mo’Hits affiliate producer Shizzi (Dami duro) and DJ Snatch.
WHAT ARE THE FANS SAYING?
Fans
are closely watching who will call the other out first, but are already
baring their minds, with Wizkid receiving major support. But, some say
it might not matter at all.
‘These fans supporting Wizkid, would they stop dancing to Davido’s music in the clubs? Not possible,’ a mutual friend says.
We wish the Superstar and Omo baba olowo all the best…

I Don’t Joke With Sex – Toyin-Kehinde
I Don’t Joke With Sex – Toyin-Kehinde
Convener,
All Ladies Affairs, Business and Career Forum, Dr. Shade Toyin-Kehinde,
speaks on challenges married women face in balancing their homes and
careers in this interview with BOSEDE OLUSOLA-OBASA
How true is the saying that it takes a tough woman to break even in the business world?
It takes an ordinary woman to achieve the unachievable in whatever
industry. But the difference between her and other ordinary women is
that she is one backed by God and her spouse. It actually takes vision
to excel. She is a focused woman, who brings business before pleasure.
She is shrewd and organised. She pays herself rather than touch her
capital. She lives within her means, she respects the core principles of
business excellence and above all, she is socially responsible to her
immediate environment and beyond. For instance, we give revolving loans
to poor widows for business and take them through skills acquisition. I
encourage women to go all out; there is no limitation at all.
But people say that women are the worst bosses to have?
That is a wrong notion. Women have this milk of kindness which comes to
play from time to time. Men who complain about female bosses are perhaps
those who want to take undue advantage of a prevailing situation. They
feel they can get away with about anything; that is where the woman’s
‘hardness’ shows up. She puts her feet down and gets the results she set
out to get. Some men think that the average woman doesn’t understand
the game in the corporate world or that she is dull.
Is it ideal for women to resign to look after their homes?
If there is an agreement between her and her spouse, well. But I will
not advise a woman to take that step; at the same time, I won’t say that
a woman should disobey her husband. But I would plead with such men to
note that her being employed may soon pay off. When perhaps the burden
of running the home becomes too heavy on the man and it may be too late
for the woman to return to the corporate world, she has become rusty –
he has rendered her inadequate and handicapped in that area. That can
eventually create tension at home. He starts putting up acts that show
the woman that she is too domestic. I encourage that men who insist that
their wives stay at home should pay her monthly as if she is going to
the office. The amount should be close to what she was earning in her
last job. For the woman, she should do things that will multiple that
income and save for the rainy days. Engage in something profitable that
still gives you good time for keeping the home. Frankly, these are days
when it requires both spouses to work to keep the home running,
especially when the children get to higher institutions and bills are
rising. So people should look into tomorrow and empower their wives
financially. In the real sense of the word, I don’t think there are
still full-time housewives in Nigeria today. You don’t have to abandon
your home to work, spend time with your family members and build healthy
family units.
You are a career woman, how often do you cook?
Oh, I go to the kitchen everyday to cook. I celebrated my 20th wedding
anniversary in February and for those 20 years, I have not had any other
person cook for my husband or children. That is not because I can’t
afford a house maid, but because I believe in managing my kitchen
personally. I cook every day, breakfast, lunch, dinner. As a matter of
fact, I have a day in the week dedicated to the kitchen. On that day, I
overhaul my freezer; check my fridge to see what I need to restock. I do
it on my own. Even as a banker, I did that in a way that it did not
affect my job. I did it at the weekends. Currently, my weekends are the
busiest, so I chose a day in the week when my schedule enables me to do
so. I stay in the kitchen and fix as many things as possible such that I
realise that I am good to go for the rest of the week. I can cook
anything without visiting the market. I do that weekly. And I do another
monthly overhaul of the freezer. The monthly schedule helps me stock
the freezer with meat of all kinds of things in large quantities. My
husband can call for any kind of meal and you are sure I have it. Many
women need to be tutored in this area. Don’t leave your responsibility
to the housemaid, nannies, grandma. It is easier for me now because I
could do it as a banker. Those days, I did my large cooking at the
weekend; packed them in plastic packs. It is not every day that people
love to eat foods stored in the fridge, so sometimes on my way from
work, I park my car and do some shopping. A woman should never be tired
of the kitchen.
Which part of your house are you fond of?
Wow, wow, I am most fond of my bedroom.
Why?
That is where I enjoy the best fellowship that gives me the tonic to
keep going. That is where I meet with a man to whom I can pour all my
heart. That is where I get the best counsel, encouragement and prayer. I
attach the most importance to my bedroom and of course I don’t joke
with my sex life – it is an integral part of the fellowship that I am
talking about. I know that marital bliss cannot be without sex. I tell
business and career women not to joke with their sex life; and I
practice what I preach.
As a banker, how receptive were you to sex?
As a banker, how receptive were you to sex?
Oh, let me set the records strait; I am busier now than when I was a
banker; as a counsellor, pastor and one in a social responsibility
sector. Then, as a banker, I had resumption and closing time, and when I
had to call it a day and go home. But now, I could get calls at 3am on
my duty as a pastor. Sometimes, I am at my desk here in the office till
midnight, attending meetings. Sometimes, because of my busy schedule, I
don’t have good sleep for three consecutive days. If I could manage my
sex life then, it should be difficult now; but no, it is not. I have set
things right. I tell married women at all kinds of fora that it is
better not to marry than come into it and claim to be tied and unable to
enjoy sex – you are courting trouble. There are so many mistresses out
there willing to give it to your husband. Let me share a personal
secret: when you are tired, that is the time to have sex. It will cool
you down, that is the design of sex. It puts your body back when it is
about to give way. That is the best sleeping pill – the right sex, with
the right man – your husband. When you feel really tired, have a good
shower, relax in your bed beside your husband, let him rub your back,
you rub his and before you know it, you are there and you will feel
really refreshed. I have practised it and I know it. It also cements
relationships and settles quarrels.
Are you saying that in 20 years you have never said no to your husband?
Hmmm, there has been no time that my no was outright. I have had to say
no only to find out that I have yielded. Before I had this
understanding, I, like other women, had the erroneous belief that sex
further drains you when you are already tired. I have since learned not
to say no; it doesn’t mean that I have sex every day. But on whatever
platform I stand to teach around the world, I do say that for a healthy
marriage, that a couple should not have any week without sex. When I see
couples who quarrel on every little issue, I find out how their sexual
life is; then I discover that they have not been there for two weeks,
one month, two months. So not a week without sex please.
You talk as if it is automatic?
You talk as if it is automatic?
Well, there are factors that aid good sex. There shouldn’t be pressure.
Some African men love to leave the roof burning and pretend nothing is
happening. He knows the bills have not been paid, yet he wants to sleep
with his wife whose mind is naturally on the unpaid bills. The woman is
not in the right frame of mind for sex. So it is easy for her to say,
‘don’t touch me; let’s talk about the bills instead.’ If the man is not
ready to talk about it, they stay off sex for as long as the issue is
unresolved. This is for the men, ‘it is not the time that you want to go
to bed with your wife that you remember your wife exists. Pay the
bills; make life comfortable for your wife.’ That is why I can’t say no
to my husband. He makes life comfortable for me, he doesn’t give me a
headache about bills being paid, he pays attention to every detail and
makes sure they are fixed, he gives me hope. In such a man, I can relax;
he doesn’t wait till bedtime to tell me he loves me. Even in the midst
of his schedule as prayer director of Lagos Chapter, Pentecostal
Fellowship of Nigeria, among others, he still minds little details. He
calls just to say, ‘I love you’; he knows I love ice cream and he buys
it often. There is nothing he can’t do to help me, especially when I get
home late at night – in the kitchen, in the shower, in the bedroom, we
help each other. When a man is as good as that, he will enjoy his wife
in every sense of the word. Some men say their wives don’t help them
meet needs at home, but they don’t open up to their wives. I spoke to a
widow who said she didn’t know her husband’s office address while he was
alive.
How do you cope with office romance, sharing the same office apartment with your husband?
It is not affecting our work; rather, it helps us to work better. When
we are at work, we should be focused. Office romance doesn’t have to be
physical today. Social media has made the world absolutely without
barriers and borders, but work hours should be given to working.
What can’t you resist?
The cry of a widow. I can give everything that I have to them. I love to
look good but I don’t spend too much on those. I have carried this
heart and commitment so hard that my children are also following me in
it. I have had to sell off some expensive things I have to meet needs of
the widow, missionaries and the less-privileged.
Your forum deals with issues about women balancing the demands of their homes and careers. Can you tell us more about it?
Your forum deals with issues about women balancing the demands of their homes and careers. Can you tell us more about it?
It is a forum where we spur women to become the best that they can be in
their respective fields and endeavours and in turn, impact their world
positively. I have come to discover that women have a lot to offer their
homes, immediate environments, countries and the world. There is no
limit to getting this done except in the African setting where their
roles are played down. It is also interesting to note that apart from
being looked down on by the public and the men, some women look down on
themselves. Our role is to help such women in all sectors to get rid of
that grasshopper mentality. That is the focus of the Business and Career
Forum, which hosts women from all walks of life yearly. This year’s
event comes up on March 9. The forum is hosted in March deliberately in
commemoration of the International Day of Women.
What are the limitations women face?
What are the limitations women face?
From counselling, I realise that women set no-go areas for themselves.
There is the phobia that the core business sectors cannot be taken over
by women. The average woman with her level of education would rather run
a massive departmental store, deal in jewellery or other accessories
than think of going into manufacturing, for instance. And the men are
not helping matters, because when they see a woman who dares to come
close to the places otherwise thought to be the preserve of men, they
are jolted. They put up an attitude that says, “We’ll rather have your
husband here.” But I ask, “If a man falls into a river and the only
person around to throw him a life jacket is a woman, will he prefer to
die than take it from her?” The interesting point to add is that women
who have dared to go there, excelled. Some women have the challenge of
husbands who cannot bear to have them in public light. But that
shouldn’t be, provided it doesn’t reduce commitment to the home front.
So the women only need to be encouraged to strike a balance. Another
challenge is that women can be impediments in the track of fellow women.
Such attitudes should stop; we should be willing to serve as ladders
for other women to rise.

When
asked to mention the most expensive fashion item he has in a recent
Punch interview, D'banj said he has a $50, 000 (N7.9m) FM wrist watch
and has another watch that Jay Z also owns.
"I’m always wearing expensive things; like now, I have two watches on my wrist. I’m putting on a Franck Muller, master of complication. It goes for at least $50,000. The other is a big face, the same one Jay-Z is rocking."Asked to describe his fashion style, D'banj said:
I don’t know. I just dress how I want to be addressed. Sometimes, I want to look like a biker, sometimes I want to look like a billionaire. I wanted to get myself a power bike until I started making it. I had to decide against it because if I get injured, I would not be able to perform. Right now, I can only ride through video games
